Summer 2025
Reading Groups
Connect with others this summer while diving into a good book!
Our summer reading groups are designed to cultivate learning through discussion with others over a shared interest.
These groups are designed for people to participate as they are able with the understanding that summer schedules are busy!
See below for details on each of this summer’s reading groups.

This group is an easy entry point for summer reading groups. Short, modern poems you can read ahead of time, or just read it with us as a group before we talk about it. Drinks and snacks will be served. But the main course will be the poems!

Meditations by Marcus Aurelius
Led by Matthew Day (Portland)
At 7pm on Fridays: June 27, July 11, August 1
Email Matthew for location and reading schedule.
It will be a challenging read, but not terribly long. The purpose is to compare 2nd century Stoicism with Christianity (early and otherwise). And it will be in a beautiful location (on a floating home) on the Multnomah Channel during the best time to be in Portland! Snacks and drinks will be provided.
Institutes of the Christian Religion by John Calvin
Led by Jane Olson (NE Portland)
At 7pm on Wednesdays: June 25, July 16, August 13
Email Jane for location and reading schedule.
We will discuss this book seminar-style. No previous theological expertise is required--just curiosity and a desire to understand Calvin's thought.
